I am being fuelled well at the moment from the wonderful people at 9bar and I can’t wait to receive my 9bar kit so I can run around in it and help to promote these yummy tasty bars!
I competed in the UK athletics Trail Championships in Gloucester on the 15th May and despite having terrible tummy managed to finish in a respectable time of 5hrs01.
The next race in my calendar was the English Fell Champs long Counter race at Duddon. This didn’t go to plan and I actually dropped out an hour and a half into the race as I just had nothing in my legs. I am not sure why but I guess these things happen. Possible could have had something to do with the heat or my iron deficiency (Which is getting better!) who knows but it’s one to go back and do next year.
Tuesday 7th June marked my first short race since January! I was so nervous – a local 5k – The bash Grueller. I felt sick all day with anticipation at having to get my legs to move quickly. I had a great fast start and ran well. I was delighted to finish second lady just 5 seconds behind Julie B who I expected would win with roads being her forte and me being so behind on any sort of speed work. I was just grateful I didn’t finish at the back as I honestly thought I would do!. My time was slower than my usual 5k time of around 19.40 finishing in 20.56 but with no speed work for 6 months it can only be expected. It has however inspired me to keep up the speed work and not lose the enjoyment of the short races.
Friday night is Barley Cabin Fell race so that should be more up my street. I had a shocker of a run there last year suffering with a chest infection so this year has got to be better!
