Three Peaks Fell Race

This event is one of my favourite events of the year - if I am running it, walking it or watching the race a great day out is always guaranteed. This year I decided to go over and watch the race and do some running whist over there.

I met my friend Elton at Ribblehead Viaduct and we decided to run over towards PYG  and cheer the runners on just after the checkpoint. As always the route was packed with walkers and challenge events completing the route and we ran about 4 miles out before I spotted the familiar gait of superstar Ricky Lightfoot and his Salomon Teammate Tom Owens bouncing their way towards us.

Both of them looked pretty fresh and comfortable and a quick shout of encouragement sent them on their way. We then decided to remain on our little observing point to warn a few runners about the slippery rocks in the little brook - people were falling over as they tried to jump across it and there were a number of tumbles. We did our bit for society and took some nice photos too.

Shaun - Smiling his way around - Or was it that he was laughing at his shoe choice for this section?
Only half of Dave Motley as he was running so fast.......

Great Photo of Gary!

And a 9Bar teammate photo of Shelli Gordon enjoying herself crossing the brook.

Elton and I then ran back to the car and chatted with a few friends from my club who were offering encouragement on the route to our runners. We then headed back to the finish and had a chat with Salomon Rep James and looked at all the shiny new shoes and gear. We then decided that it wouldn't be too long until the end of the race so we decided to jog up the finish line and head out towards the run in from Ingleborough where hopefully Ricky would be leading in the final mile or so. Sure enough we didn't have to wait long when Ricky came floating over the hill with a smile on his face.

It was great to see him looking like he was certainly on for the win especially after chatting previously too him I know that he wasn't feeling too confident with being injured recently.

Tom Owens followed a couple of minutes later and finished the race a few minutes behind Ricky.
Elton and I then ran back to the finish for chatting with friends, cake and a brew!
Another great day out :-)
